Walking in my chosen location alone, nothing relating to human life can be heard. On Brännö, the use of private automobile transportation is forbidden which gives the island a very different aural character and temporal rhythm if compared to a denser human dwelling area like a city. There are houses, bicycles, mopeds and other signs of human civilization, but there are also largely untouched areas devoid of those signs. Technology is not immediately present in how the image of this location is understood, instead being used for practical purposes, such as farming: becoming external and helpful, not transparent layers. The landscape seems to evoke feelings of peace, relaxation and undirectedness.

My goal is to disrupt the pleasant view with the disparate chaos born out of internal interpretative processes, developing into a spiraling self-implosion. The critique in Vistas is about how signal fidelity, man-machine (semiotic) translation and non-overlap between systems of understanding (rational vs emotive) create wildly different cultural subjects in the very same location and with the same basic stimuli. The enjoinment fails, creating separateness instead. Hopefully viewers/attendees will think about the processes involved in handling sensory inputs and about the implications of those. Also, I hope they will react to the fluidity with which their own bodies handle input compared to the degrading second-order artifacts of the computer's digitalized other-place.
